About Us

We are a team of caring, helpful and spiritual individuals whose primary responsibility is to ensure that your visits are pleasant and comfortable. We are a team of individuals who care about the patient first and our mission is to build a trusting, interpersonal relationship with each of our clients.


TEAM MEMBERS

Jeffery D. HartmanD.M.D., PC

Dr. Hartman earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biochemistry, with course work in nutrition, from the University of Pittsburgh in 1976. He earned his Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) degree from the University of Pittsburgh Dental School in 1980. Upon graduation, he served a two-year commitment with the U.S.Public Health Service at the Southern Huntingdon County Medical Center in Orbisonia, PA. In 1982, he converted the Dental Center to private practice. The current location of Smiles For Life Total Health Dentistry in Huntingdon, PA was opened in July of 1992.

To offer the best available treatment in the dental health care industry, Dr. Hartman believes it is important to attend continuing education in his field. He has taken postgraduate courses at the L.D. Pankey Institute in Florida. He has also studied orthodontics in a two-year clinical course sponsored by the American Orthodontic Society in 1982. He continues to attend courses regularly.

Dr. Hartman is a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Holistic Dental Association and the American Orthodontic Society, the International Association of Mercury Free Dentists and the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology, and the Academy of Laser Dentistry.

Dr. Hartman and his wife, Amy, have four grown children and two grandchildren, and reside in the Huntingdon area on their farm, Spotted Hart Stables. They breed, raise, and ride Appaloosa horses. They devote much of their time as Christian ministry leaders in their church and enjoy organizing a mission team to Costa Rica each year. Most important to Dr. Hartman is time spent with his family, opportunities to travel, and working on his farm.


Shilo VanHartAdministrative & Financial Coordinator

Shilo, Dr. Hartman's daughter, has worked in many different areas of the practice over the years. During high school and college she worked in the front office as the scheduling coordinator and also assisted the doctor with treatment chair side. She holds a B.S. degree in Human Resource Management from Messiah College. In October 2005, Shilo returned to the practice as the Administrative and Financial Coordinator. She enjoys assisting our clients with financial arrangements so they can receive the treatment they need to optimize their dental health. She also manages all of the business and administrative responsibilities of the practice. Shilo is an avid equestrian and enjoys time riding & competing with her horses. She enjoys living on her farm in the McAlevey's Fort area with her husband, Buddie and son, Ryker. Together they enjoy motorcycles, spending time with family, traveling, camping and other outdoor activities.


Darlene RilingScheduling Coordinator

Darlene joined the Smiles for Life team in October of 2007 as the Scheduling Coordinator. In this role, she schedules appointments for patients, assists with questions about services, and works in other areas of client service. She enjoys the fact that this position allows her the opportunity to inspire patients to achieve the level of dental and overall health that we all strive for. Darlene lives outside of Huntingdon with her husband, Mark. They have four sons, Dustin, Darren, Mark Jr. and Troy


Heather MetzlerRegistered Dental Hygienist

Heather is a 1996 graduate of Allegany College of Maryland and has been practicing with Dr. Hartman since 2005. Her many years as a hygienist and her desire to help each client achieve dental wellness are evident in the high level of care she provides. Heather lives in her hometown of Martinsburg with her husband, Andy and daughters, Shelby and Sydney. Her hobbies include spending time with family, traveling, scrapbooking, gardening, reading, and attending church activities.


Shannon SheaTreatment Coordinator

Shannon has been a member of the Smiles For Life team since 2003. She began working as a clinical assistant in 1999 and brings much expertise to each client as she works with them during dental treatment. Shannon truly enjoys her work and says the most rewarding aspect is the relationships made with our clients. She has a daughter, Taylor, a son, Aaron, and resides in Huntingdon. Her family enjoys picnicking, hiking, and traveling together. They are all involved in a variety of sports and church activities.


Karen RitcheyTreatment Coordinator

Karen has been a member of the Smiles for Life team since 2011. Her four years of previous clinical assisting have aided her as she continues to learn who our patients are and how to best serve them. Karen loves the opportunity to do what she enjoys in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Karen resides in Belleville, PA. She keeps busy with church involvement, friends, and when fall rolls around, let's hear it for the Pittsburgh Steelers!


Shana MarkNew Patient Treatment and Marketing Coordinator

Shana has been a member of the Smiles for Life team since March 2012. She brings to the practice experience in the dental field as well marketing, advertising and public relations. She is passionate about welcoming new patients into our practice and guiding them through their initial consultation. She appreciates the opportunity to educate patients regarding holistic and natural solutions to their dental and overall health and recognize how we, as a team, can best serve them as an individual patient. Shana resides in Huntingdon and is the proud mother of a son, Eric and a daughter, Jaden. When not with patients, Shana is spending time with her family on their farm in Hartslog Valley and her Paint horse Piya.


Chandra HeidelHygiene Coordinator

Chandra joined the Smiles for Life team in December of 2011. She assists the hygienists by charting patient information, scheduling appointments and managing patient records among other duties. Chandra enjoys building relationships with patients, realizing the importance of oral health and hygiene and how it affects our overall health and wellness. She attended Hyles-Anderson College and graduated from Texas Bible College. She actively serves as church pianist and enjoys being a vegetarian, running, photography, shopping and especially spending time with family and friends.
