TMJ

Temporo-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction

Frequent indicators of TMJ is a popping and/or clicking of the jaw, limited jaw function, and pain and pressure in the face or ears. We provide therapies that can eliminate this painful problem (NTI Splint).

Dr. Jeffery Hartman wants everyone to know that each pain patient is very unique. Everyone has a set of circumstances that sets them apart from everyone else. The jaw muscle is one of the strongest muscles in the body, and the effects of its malfunction can be surprising. One person may have great health but lots of pain, while some one else may have a myriad of health problems that could effect head and neck pain. These could include stress, sleep patterns, nutrition, female hormone problems, ailments (diabetes, arthritis, diseases such as lymes, and many more.) Therefore, each individual has to be evaluated and diagnosed very thoroughly, and then a specific treatment plan can be formulated.

Checklist for symptoms:

  • Headaches

  • Facial pain

  • Ear pain

  • Ear ringing

  • Pain around and behind the eyes

  • Neck pain

  • Jaw pain when open and closing, or with chewing

  • Inability to open your mouth very much

  • Constant sinus problems

Simple Test For TMJ

One simple test to find out if you have a possible TMJ problem is to place three fingers on one of your hands directly next to each other, and then try to place them into your opened mouth.

If they don’t fit because you can’t open wide enough, or if it causes a large click or pop, a popping sound or shift in the smooth movement of your jaw just in front of the ear opening, you should see a TMJ specialist.
